Alexandru Badea is one of the leading interpreters of the lyrical Italian and French tenor repertoire. Since 2016, is Alexandru Badea the artistic director of the "European Music Open" festival which takes place in his hometown Oradea - Romania. The first three editions brought together in Oradea, famous opera singers, conductors, choreographers, ballet dancers, international visual artists, managers from the Vienna State Opera, Volksoper Vienna, the Budapest State Opera, Paris, Melbourne, the Greek National Opera and the Romanian National Opera, along with important names of Romanian and universal culture.

Born in Transylvania the good-looking tenor had his first permanent engagements at the Wiesbaden State Theatre, the Dortmund Theatre and in Augsburg.

These were followed by international guest performances at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Vienna Volksoper, the opera houses of Trieste, Torino, Tel Aviv, Stockholm Royal Opera, Basel, Bologna, Catania, Los Angeles, the Mannheim National Theatre only to name few of the stages where Alexandru Badea was highly acclaimed.

He studied with two of the greatest’s tenors of all time, Luciano Pavarotti and Nicolai Gedda.

Following an invitation by Plácido Domingo, Alexandru Badea celebrated great triumphs as Arturo in ‘I Puritani’ at the Grand Opera in Washington.

Besides, his long-lasting collaboration with famous director Herbert Wernicke in the Offenbach-cycle at the renowned opera festivals: Salzburger Festspiele, Aix-en-Provance Festival or at the Brussels Opera House brought the tenor Alexandru Badea much acclaim and the public appreciation.

He achieved particular success as CALAF in Tokyo – Metropolitan Art Space and in open-air performances at the Opera Bremen. He portrayed HOFFMANN in Athen, Augsburg, at the Breslau State Opera or in Istanbul Opera House, EDGARDO in ‘Lucia di Lammermoor’ at the Opera House Metz. The attractive tenor was the DUCA DI MANTOVA in Rotterdam, St. Gallen, Dortmund, Stockholm, at the Chemnitz Opera House and at the Saarbrucken State Theatre where he made also his debut as PINKERTON.

He received much acclaim for his guest performances as ALFRED in ‘Die Fledermaus’ in a new staging from Marco Arturo Marelli at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki.

Lately Alexandru Badea debuted with great success as CAVARADOSSI "Tosca" at the Metropolitan Art Theater in Tokyo.

Various CD and DVD recordings are proof of the Romanian tenor’s brilliant and secure voice, e.g. a total registration of ‘Lucia di Lammermoor’ in French, a highly praised recording of ‘Viva L’Opera’ together with the Choir of the German Opera in Berlin and the Berlin Symphonic Orchestra under the musical direction of Janos Acs.

In addition, of his successful performances in various summer festivals such as the Léhar Festival in Bad Ischl, the Opera Festival in Schwerin, Classic Open Air Gendarmenmarkt Festival Berlin or the Vienna Operetta Festival, Alexandru Badea is a much sought-after guest on the international concert stages with regular appearances at the Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles, Roy Thomson Hall Toronto, Kölner Philharmonie, the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Konzerthaus Berlin, Konzerthaus Vienna or the Queen Elisabeth Saal Antwerp, as well as with important orchestras such as the Berliner Philharmoniker or the SWR Orchester. Many of his concerts have been broadcast on radio and television (Arte, Mezzo, ARD, ZDF, RTL, Austrian and Belgian radio).
